Kottayam Alumni Association Head Quarters Building Construction Update

by Jose Tom

We had been trying to construct a building for Kottayam Medical College Alumni Association for nearly nine years. We purchased a 50 cent plot just opposite house surgeons quarters (men's) in 2000. Since then we had lot of problems to get approval for construction of a building for Alumni. After long wait we have completed the formalities and the contract was awarded on last Monday for construction of an auditorium which can accommodate nearly 1000 people, office rooms, conference hall and two suite rooms for guests. Next Sunday (April 5, 2009) we are planning to lay the foundation stone of the building and we have invited one of our senior most teachers, Dr. Mathew Varghese, to lay the foundation stone. As the President of the Kottayam Medical College Alumni Association in which we all are members, it is a proud achievement for me.

We had planned to organize a alumni get together (all batches) in late 2009. Since we plan to complete the building in 12 to 15 months time, we have postponed the get together to 2010. Hope we all will be able to meet there for the function. Our idea is to make it an air conditioned auditorium. We have nearly sufficient funds to complete the project which is estimated to cost nearly 2.5 crore rupees.

Foundation Stone Laid

The foundation stone of KMC Alumni Building Complex was laid yesterday (Saturday, April 4, 2009) by Prof. Mathew Varghese. Here are some photos. The cars are parked on the road to our college and the building you see behind is the men's house surgeons quarters.
